World Cafe Cyprus
19/05/2008 - 13:27:51
"World Cafe Cyprus - Conversations that Matter". Performa and the NGO Support Centre will host the first World Cafe in Cyprus on Saturday, May 31, in Nicosia. This process used around the world has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to foster authentic conversation. It is based on the assumption that people already have within them the wisdom and creativity to confront even the most difficult challenges. Our conversation will explore the question: "In what ways might we, citizens of Cyprus, positively contribute to the future of our country?" Join us in conversation: call + 357 22 315 930 for registration.
The first World Café Cyprus will be held at Performa’s Out of the Box Club,
organized jointly by Performa and the NGO Support Centre:

World Café Cyprus,
a forum for conversations that matter

“Since our earliest ancestors gathered in circles around the warmth of a fire, conversation has been a core process for discovering what we care about. It’s how we’ve always shared our knowledge, imagined the future and created communities of commitment.”
World Café resource guide, by Juanita Brown and the World Café Community

Imagine joining three or four people at a Café-style table to explore questions where collaborative thinking can really make a difference. Nearby, other small groups are exploring similar questions, noting down key insights and perspectives. Soon, you move to another table, visit with new people, and cross-pollinate ideas and insights. As the conversations connect, they spark new discoveries. Innovative opportunities begin to appear. Collective knowledge grows and evolves. A sense of the larger whole becomes real, and the wisdom of the group emerges for all to experience and act upon.

This is idea behind the “World Café”, which thousands of people on six continents have experienced, in corporate, government and community settings. Performa staff has been trained in “hosting” the Café, and is pleased to introduce it in Cyprus.

Our World Café Cyprus will explore the question:

In what ways might we, citizens of Cyprus,
positively contribute to the future of our country?

The kafeneion or coffee-shop is deeply rooted in Cypriot tradition. We propose to revive this tradition, not as an old-fashioned hangout for men but as a contemporary means of engagement in our communities. We intend this event to be bi-communal to break down barriers in our country that has been divided. Language used will be English.

To contribute and learn, join us on Saturday May 31st 2008 from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm at Chateau Status (directions below*)

Conversations will be principally in English.

There will be a charge of EUR 12 for all participants to cover expenses.
